Annalisa Ramsarran of the Shaolin Temple of T&T club was the star of the day when the PKATT Sport Martial Arts Championship was held on November 24 at the Central Regional Indoor Sports Arena, winning three gold medals.
The tournament included for the first time, a kung fu division, and also included semi-contact and light-contact fighting as well as traditional forms and weapons categories. There were age divisions and open events.
Ramsarran took home double gold in the traditional kung fu forms and weapons events, and grabbed another in the open event, which included kung fu and karate.
Also winning gold in the traditional kung fu forms and weapons category for Shaolin was Peter Chin (two gold), while Cynthia De Freitas and Zakir Razark won one each. Winning silver in the category were Rachel De Freitas, Cynthia De Freitas, Sadiqah Razark, Zakir Razark and Chin.
In the open event, Rachel De Freitas, Dillon Mazeli, Cynthia De Freitas, Zakir Razark, Sadiqah Razark and Chin copped silver and bronze medals. The Shaolin Temple walked away with 24 medals total, including seven gold.
The Shaolin Temple of T&T has always dominated, not only kung fu tournaments in T&T but tournaments in karate and kickboxing also. The Point Kickboxing Association of T&T, astutely run by Martin McClashie, hosts regular tournaments to keep martial arts alive. This tournament saw the introduction of the young stars of Shaolin Kung Fu as the Shaolin Temple of T&T grows from strength to strength under the teaching of SIFU Shi Heng Gou, 35th Generation Shaolin Monk.
