National mountain bike champion Jason Costelloe will start as the favourite when Phillip Promotions Ltd and the National Lotteries Control Board host the Jungle Jackpot Mountain Bike Race today at the Arboretum, Chaguaramas from 8 am.
Costelloe won the T&T Cycling Federation Mountain Bike National Championships last month in one hour, 22 minutes, 13 seconds.
Rishi Ramlalack, Barry Luces and Rudy Ashton, who are all carded to compete today in the Open category, came second, third and fourth respectively at the national championships. The quartet is expected to get some competition from 14-year-old Peter Sellier.
Other categories include the Kids Under-13 and the Sport category.
The Sport category was created for all mountain bike enthusiast looking for a fun time. In the open category, males will ride four laps and females will pedal two laps, while the U-13 and Sport cyclists will attempt one lap of the 4km course.
Special prizes will be awarded to the Shrimp (youngest to finish), Jamette (oldest woman to finish), Big Belly (heaviest man to finish) and the Morocoy (last to finish).
All cyclists must sign in today between 7 am and 7.45 am.
