Newcomer Quarters United and Sangre Grande All Stars will jump-off the 2013-2014 season of the Mackeson Super 10 Basketball League following a parade of teams at the Southern Indoor Sports Arena, Pleasantville, San Fernando from 4 pm today.
The first match will be followed by a match-up that will feature the 2011-2012 losing finalist and the pride of the South Petro Jazz against Valencia Heat at 7 pm.
The league will put on show its youth division teams that will participate in the Boys 15 and Under and 16 to 21 age-group.
Dave Bobb, the director of Sports in the Ministry of Sport will deliver the feature address along with Courtney McNish, the president of the National Basketball Federation, and representatives from sponsors.
The League's 15th season is sponsored by the Ministry of Sports, Mackeson, Toyota, Caribbean Bottlers Limited, Nestle and Courts. This season the League will honour former Basketball president decease Bertrand Doyle by naming the youth championships trophies in his honour.
Last Sunday the SBL crowned point-guard Stephanie Isaac of Brian Chase Academy the fittest basketballer in T&T. The 33-year-old Morvant resident clocked 58 minutes and 44 seconds to secure the title from 74 challenges from 16 teams.
Forward Jeffrey Harris of the University of T&T was the champion among the men after securing the first runner-up position with his team-mate Rael Blasie finishing third.
The SBL will operate the following divisions –Men's, Women's, Boys 15 & Under and Boys 16 to 21 years.
This edition will comprise no more than 13 teams in the men's division who will compete in one round and a Big-Four semifinals (Best-in-five) and finals (Best-in-seven).
The seven women's teams will compete in one round and a Big-Four semi-finals and finals both Best-in-five series. Teams in Boys 15 & Under and Boys 16 to 21 years divisions will play a round robin preliminary round with the top four (4) teams advancing to the Sudden-death Big-four semi-finals and the final.
