Wickham, Constantine shine at Concorde awards
Lisa Wickham, 19, and John Mark Corey Constantine, 18, walked away with the prestigious awards for Most Outstanding female and male Athletes of the Year at Concorde Athletics Clubs second annual dinner and awards ceremony on Friday night.
The VIP Room at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Woodbrook was venue for the ceremony at which athletes in various categories took the spotlight to receive their accolades. Wickham and Constantine are both 100-metre specialists.
Constantine said the award proved that his hard work was paying off. Wickham, however, described it as a stepping stone for what almighty God has for her in the future He said, “It shows you, you are at the top of your class. I have been a member of the club since I was 11 years old. I have grown extremely well. I am undefeated from since (the) Under-13, up to now. I just continue to grow. I’ve been really training to beat the Carifta 100-metre record which is 10.11. My goal is to beat that record (in 2014); my ending time for this year was 10.24. So I’m pretty close to it. I’m very much confident about beating that record. After that, I will see how Senior Champs and Youth Olympics go.”
It was the second consecutive win for Wickham who maintains that success for her was all part of what almighty God had in store for her.
“It boosts my confidence, to push on and continue training hard for bigger and better things! There are a lot of pathways through track and field. I want to reach the highest point which I believe is (the) Olympics, then onto World Games. Right now is morning track and field, evening track and field. God permitting I reach that far, I want to help others with the lessons I have received,” she said.
