Forward Kerry Celestine, the team's captain, sank a 12-foot jump-shot with one second remaining before the buzzer to send his team into a frenzy as the University of T&T (UTT) upset Diego Martin United 62-60 when action continued in the Mackeson Super 10 Basketball League at the Southern Indoor Sports Arena, Pleasantville, on Saturday.
The feature match of a double-header appeared to have been heading for a blow-out result in favour of Diego Martin United as UTT, at one point, went adrift by a whopping 19-points.
UTT, en route to a brilliant come-back, fell 22-7 by the end of the first quarter, before slowly pulling back but trailing 38-19 by the half-way mark. By that time many UTT fans had began to exit the venue, with little faith of a return.
However, with both Celestine and Jeffrey Harris scoring eight points each in the third quarter, UTT went on to outscore Diego Martin 25-3 to close the session with a three points lead (44-41) further urging veteran coach Lenny Guy to go for victory.
In the fourth quarter, the teams traded baskets, but it was Celestine who made the difference with eight points in the stanza including the winning basket to finish with 20 points.
Meanwhile, his teammate, Harris, added a total of 19 points, while Lazaro Campbell chipped in with 10 to get the UTT campaign off to a winning start.
For Diego Martin, guard Sidiki Guerra scored 15 points and Sedley Montrichard contributed with nine.
