Brandon Gregoire shocked the number one ranked Keshan Moonasar yesterday in the boys Under-16 singles quarterfinals at the RBC Junior tennis tournament at the Trinidad Country Club, Maraval.
After the first set, Moonasar seemed to be cruising into the semifinals, winning the set 6-1. However, Gregoire showed his resilience edging Moonasar 7-5 in the second, to set up a third and final set. Gregoire prevailed 11-9 in the third, much to the delight of his colleagues. Also advancing in the category were Nkrumah Patrick, Adam Scott and Tmothy Davis.
In the girls U-16 and 18 quarterfinals, there were no surprises, as the top two seeds easily advanced. Top seeded Emma Davis, defeated Shardelle Jackman 6-3, 6-2, while Emma-Rose Trestrail, who is ranked number two, breezed to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Juliet Campbell. Ma-Ling Goodridge and Farisha Mohammed also progressed in straight sets.
