Moonasar advances in RBC tennis tourney
Top national junior Keshan Moonasar needed three sets to get past Adam Defreitas yesterday on a rain affected day at the RBC Junior tennis tournament, at Trinidad Country Club, Maraval.
Moonasar, who is ranked number one in boys Under-16 singles category, was pushed to the end by Defreitas as the knockout round began.
After winning the first set 6-3, Moonasar was shocked in the second, losing 4-6 to set up a third and final set. In the super tie break, Moonasar showed his class, winning 10-4 to advance to the next round.
In the boys U-12 singles category, Jadon Alexis, who lost on Sunday to Aaron Chan, bounced back yesterday to defeat Rashaan Wilkison in straight sets 4-1, 4-1. Also progressing to the next round were Samuel West and Aidan Carter.
After losing the first set 4-5, West recovered like a champion, winning the next two sets, 4-0, 10-3. Carter also came from a set down against Alexander Thorp, prevailing 2-4, 4-1, 10-6.
