Simmons bangs half century in ODI warm up
Lendl Simmons smashed a powerful half century to setup a 61 run victory for Sagicor West Indies High Performance (HPC) XI over a Barbados trials XI in a 50 over practice match on Tuesday.
Simmons hit ten fours and a six in a top score of 71 from 61 balls as HPC soared to 311 in 49.2 overs after winning the toss.
Simmons is one of six members of the West Indies One-Day International team at a one-week camp here preparing for the five-match limited overs series against New Zealand next month.
Other good scores for HPC came from Raymon Reifer 68, Kyle Hope 56 and his younger brother Shai Hope 37 off only 17 balls including three fours and two sixes.
Medium-pacer Kevin Stoute was the leading wicket-taker with three for 63 of ten overs.
Chasing 312 to win, the Barbados XI were bowled out for 250 in 43.3 overs succumbing to left arm spinner Jomel Warrican, the leading wicket-taker with three for 60.
Kyle Corbin continued his prolific run with a top score of 64 while Jonathan Carter made 52.
Five members of the West Indies ODI team, Captain Dwayne Bravo, Simmons, Jason Holder, Nikitta Miller and Johnson Charles, all played while fast bowler Ravi Rampaul was forced to return to his native Trinidad for the funeral of a family member.
Rampaul was, however, expected to return to Barbados last evening, to join the other five leaving the same day for London en route to New Zealand.
