The Jenexcon Tableland Sports Club will feature in the premier division of the National Cricket League next season for the first time in its four-year history, and manager Anthony Boody is excited about his team's chances.
"We are definitely looking forward to next season," Boody said yesterday in an interview with the T&T Guardian.
Tableland won the South Championship title earlier this year, which earned the club a spot in the Premier division.
Boody stated that the club has a good balance of youth and experience in its line up, which includes former West Indies and T&T right-handed batsman Lincoln Roberts. Tobago-born Roberts, 39, is also the coach of the southern team, that comprises a strong batting and fast bowling unit.
The current line up only has local players, but the club plans to recruit foreign players to boost its chances of competing in the top division, with the likes of local giants Queen's Park and Powergen.
The club has been practising three days a week with trainer Orlando Griffith since October in various venues, such as the Queen's Park Oval and the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva.
Tableland will take a break for the Christmas season to recharge the batteries, but will be in action at the T20 UWI SPEC tournament in January, before the National League bowls off.
Boody said Tableland is a small club, but if the club can prove itself in the National Cricket League, Tableland may quickly become a household name among cricket enthusiasts in this country.
