The Ministry of Sport Schoolaz, following a slow start to the season, recorded its first win of the campign, yesterday, in a 7872 victory over Police, during a busy weekend for Super 10 Basketball League action.
That fixture took place at the Southern Indoor Sports Arena, Pleasantville, San Fernando.
Schoolaz got 15 points from forward Chris Nelson, while Kemrick Julien and centre Randy Greenidge added 13 and 12, respectively for the same team.
For Police, which trailed 3943 at the halfway mark, centre Phillip Alexander scored 16 points, Dayne Daniel, 12, and Don Wilkinson, ten. Police lost both matches it contested on the weekend.
The Police went down to the University of T&T (UTT) 78-75, on Sunday. UTT, courtesy of a late three-point effort from pint sized point-guard Joel Hinds, took the two points with a field basketball and a successful free throw.
Then, on Sunday, UTT defeated JCW Quarters United, 7668, in another close encounter to move into second place on the standings.
Yet another key encounter saw Caledonia Clippers slam Quarters United for the latter team's fourth consecutive defeat. The match ended 7558 in favour of Caledonia.
Meanwhile, Valencia spoiled Maloney Pacers' three-match winning streak with a comfortable 9673 win, on Sunday, in Maloney to move to the top of the 13-team standings with eight points from five matches.
The match saw the host team fall behind, 22-13, after the first period, before continuing to stuggle in offense in the second period. The victorious team, led by Kyeon Joseph, scored just 16 points to Valencia's 33 to trail 5529 at the half-way mark.
In the third quarter Maloney was productive outscoring Valencia 2618, but it was not enough to sparking a comeback victory as was the case in its last two matches.
For the winning team, guard Mario Davis and forward Jonathan Weekes both scored 18 points, while Fabrice Fisher secured a mere ten points, his lowest points production for the season.
For Maloney, forward Joseph continued his prolific scoring with 23 points. Maurice Francis helped with 16 and D'comar Marin chipped in with ten.
