A venue is yet to be determined, but by all accounts, T&T's senior men's national team will participate in perhaps its highest profile friendly match in decades, when it faces World Cup contender Argentina, on June 4, eight days before the start of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Both the T&T Football Association (TTFA) and Argentina's equivalent are expected to make an official announcement on the fixture, upon the agreement of a venue. This was according to a media release circulated by the TTFA, yesterday.
On Saturday, Guillermo Tofoni, whose agency - World Eleven, organises Argentina friendly fixtures told Reuters the South American nation will play its last warm-up match against Slovenia, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on June 7, some three days after.
Argentina, in its slate of friendly fixtures is preparing for its three Group F World Cup matches, in which it is carded to face Bosnia, Iran and Nigeria. T&T will not participate in the World Cup, but as indicated by the TTFA recently, will utilize as many Fifa-sanctioned international dates against the best possible opponents.
Tofoni, speaking with Reuters said, "The Slovenia (match) is confirmed and is good for the coach (Alejandro Sabella) because, like Bosnia, they're a country from the former Yugoslavia."
He added, "T&T is also already arranged. All that remains is to fix where it will be played but they're a good sparring (partner) for Argentina."
Tofoni denied Argentina would meet Cameroon in a friendly before the World Cup finals. The star-studded Argentina team, however, will also meet Romania in Bucharest on March 5.
