Queen's Park hard-hitting batsman Jonathan Augustus continued his impressive form yesterday, as he struck 85 for Kevon Cooper's XI against Yannic Ottley's XI in their second three-day trial match at the National Cricket Centre (NCC) in Couva. The former West Indies youth player was the main act on a day that started with a rain interuption. At the close, Cooper's team reached 240 for eight. Augustus looked solid during his contribution and was well supported by left handed opener Nicholas Sookdeosingh with 31, Jason Mohammed 44 and Yannick Carriah 35 not out.
Mohammed continued his good form as his 44 followed a knock of 74 at the same venue last weekend. Ottley used nine bowlers in an effort to dismiss Justin Guillen's men but the most refreshing to see would have been all rounder Rayad Emrit. Having his first competitive bowl since injuring his shoulder during the Champions League in India in October, Emrit looked good in returning figures of 1/22 from nine overs.
The spinners again were the main wicket-takers as the inform Kavesh Kantasingh took 2/26 and leg-spinner Imran Khan 2/30.This trial is being held in preparation for the upcoming regional First Class season which bowls off at the end of February. The match continues this morning at 10 am.Trial Scores: Cooper's XI 240/8 (Jonathan Augustus 85, Jason Mohammed 44, Nicholas Sookdeosingh 31, Yannick Carriah 35no, Kavesh Kantasingh 2/26, Imran Khan 2/30) vs Ottley's XI.
