National cyclist Njisane Phillip is holding out hope that he will be out of hospital this weekend and return to the bike mere days later in preparation for the International Cycling Union (UCI) World Track Cycling championships which pedals off this February in Colombia. He is mindful, however, that his optimism would be guided by the advice of his medical team at the specialist centre in California, USA, where he was warded up to press time. Phillip said he was awaiting the arrival of the doctors to perform more tests.
In a G-Sports interview yesterday on Facebook he said, "I have another test today to see what's up. February is worlds...I feel much better today...kidney function is back...sleep has been better, too."The T&T Guardian on Wednesday confirmed that both Phillip's kidneys were swollen, following an examination. The swelling was reportedly caused due to blockage of his urinal tract."I want to thank Keshorn (Walcott), Andrew (Lewis), Jehue (Gordon), Richard (Thompson) for all the love and support shown. I want to thank Trinidad and Tobago for all the love shown. ...really appreciate it! ...really do!" said Phillip.
