Former national captain Denesh Ramdin will deliver the feature address, as the Zaheer Ali Foundation opens 2014 with a continuation of one of its project titled Building Youth Awareness, at Hillview College in Tunapuna tomorrow. This project was initiated at the end of last year and due to the positive feedback from the principals and staff of the various schools that participated in the workshop, the foundation has decided to continue. The justification for such a workshop is in light of the prevalence of youth violence and criminal behaviour in schools. As such, the foundation decided to adopt a proactive approach by taking a surgical, systematic and intelligent approach to assist in addressing the problem which is of national concern.
The foundation held discussions with other stakeholders and has tailored and initiated a workshop that is directed and geared towards achieving the overall objective of "building youth awareness" but more importantly to continue to build the social and human resource capital of T&T.The draft structure for the workshop is as follows: Trinidad and Tobago police officers from the Criminal Gang and Intelligence Unit will speak about criminal gang and gang-related activities, drug- use and bullying with the objective of discouraging the youths from getting involved.T&T prison officers will speak about a life in jail to act as a deterrent for the youths. Both a psychologist and psychiatrist will lecture on relevant and related matters pertaining to the topics above.
