Barrackpore West Secondary and Carapichaima East Secondary will battle today at the Caldrac ground in a top-of-the-table clash, as round three of the PowerGen Secondary Schools 50-over Cricket (Premier division) League bowls off.
Both teams won their first two matches of the season and are joint leaders on 36 points. Barrackpore's excellent start to the season has surprised many, as last season the southern team played championship (second) division cricket. The team earned promotion to the premier (first) division after finishing second in the championship division last season.
National Under-17 player Jeron Maniram, starred for Barrackpore in the last round. The right-hander struck 91 and returned later in the match to grab 3/19 with his off spin to lead the team to a 62-run win over Vishnu Boys. Vishnu also earned promotion to the top flight this year.
In another contest, Presentation College, Chaguanas will welcome defending champions Hillview to its school ground. Presentation is looking for its third win on the trot, after defeating Fatima by five wickets in round one and Trinity East by six wickets in round two. National Under-15 batsman Crystian Thurton has shown some form with the bat for Pres, scoring 32 and 52 not out.
Hillview, which lost its first match, will try to maintain its momentum after getting past El Dorado East by two wickets in round two.
In other matches, El Dorado East will play Princes Town West, Vishnu Boys tackles Fatima and Trinity East faces Naparima.
