Last Tuesday, the T&T Paralympic Committee (TTPC) launched the "Equal Halves - make us one" Exhibition and Awareness Programme at Gulf City Mall, Tobago, and President of the Committee Ken McKell is hopeful that more parathletes will follow in the footsteps of national paralympians Shanntol Ince and Akeem Stewart.
At the launch, McKell introduced the crowd to the purpose of the TTPC and its athletes, as well as the expanding scope of possibilities for T&T's hopeful paralympians, recreational and rehabilitative athletes.
McKell outlined the success of Ince, who won four gold medals last October at the third Youth Para Pan American Games in Argentina.
The president also highlighted the introduction of Stewart to the Paralympic Stage in Medellin, Colombia in November 2013. McKell is optimistic that the success of Ince and Stewart will encourage more participation among local parathletes, as there are many games leading up to the Rio De Janeiro Paralympic Games in 2016.
Among the captivated audience, were students from The Technical Vocational School for Persons with Disabilities, the Happy Haven School and the school for the Hearing Impaired.
Following McKell's informative and exciting speech, Theophilus Trim, the Tobago House of Assembly Director of Sport pledged his support for the inclusion of the TTPC in Tobago.
Trim left no question mark over the fact that he was extremely pleased at where the TTPC was heading and at the pace at which it continues to grow and expand.
Undoubtedly, the impact the TTPC is making on the lives of students, teachers, coaches and the general public, will greatly affect the positive road ahead for future parathletes.
It is with a sense of great pride that the journey ahead for the TTPC and para athletes continues to be filled with the support of a nation embracing the ability of our youth in all their forums.
