Former T&T youth player, Sean Cooper marked his debut for Pt Fortin Civic Centre by coming off the bench to snatch the winner, in a 2-1 triumph over the previously unbeaten Digicel T&T Pro League leaders, DirecTv W Connection at the Mahaica Oval, Pt Fortin, yesterday.The 31-year-old who joined the club last week following three years in Suriname with Walking Boys Company (WBC) and Transvaal came on as a 61st minute substitute for Akeem Redhead and 11 minutes later was the toast of the Mahaica Oval crowd with his strike which ended W Connection's 12-match unbeaten run to start the league campaign.
However, earlier on it look as though, four-time league champions W Connection would coast to another win, after Ashim Arcia fired in the opener after only eight minutes.But his strike was cancelled out eight minutes later by former W Connection striker Andre Toussaint before Cooper who also enjoyed a stint in the Brazilian lower league and with local clubs, Joe Public, North East Stars and the defunct Tobago United got the decisive item.With the win, Pt Fortin which began the season with three straight wins before enduring a wretched spell and has now gone four matches unbeaten, has 20 points in second spot, 12 behind W Connection and both from 13 matches while Police is third with 18 followed by Caledonia AIA, and North East Stars, a point back.
On Friday night at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, the law-men wasted a chance to sole control of second after a 0-0 draw with the revamped Central FC, after both team ended the match with ten men. Police which played the entire second-half with ten-men after midfielder Trent Noel was red-carded by referee Keon Yorke, for pulling the match official came closest to scoring in the 55th minute when Jameel Perry headed against the cross-bar.
