Fifteen-year-old national golfer Sachin Kumar won the 13-18 overall boys category at the first Junior tour championship on the south Florida PGA Junior tour over the weekend, at the Sandpiper Golf Club at Club Med.
Kumar, who enjoyed a successful run last year on the junior circuit, is continuing that form this year. Kumar, who now resides in Port St Lucie, Florida, trains with Don Law and Mike Bennett of the Don Law Golf Academy. The young golfer defeated a 44-man field to come away with the win.
Kumar needed 141 strokes to complete the course, narrowly finishing ahead of defending champion Alberto Martinez and Joshua August, who both needed 142 strokes. Kumar sealed the win with a round two score of 68.
Kumar, who hopes to follow in the footsteps of Stephen Ames, had a memorable 2013.
Some of his titles last year, includes the T&T Tatil Open Amateur Golfs Championships, the Future Collegians World tour in Miami and the Caribbean Amateur Junior Golfs Championships in Cayman Islands.
Kumar is expected to compete again from February 15-16 at the Junior tour challenge in Port St Lucie, Florida.
