A combination of court talents in point guard Adrian Joseph and forward Ako Pascal helped guided Petro Jazz to a seventh consecutive win, on Sunday, when the club defeated the University of T&T (UTT) 90-70, when action in Mackeson Super 10 Basketball League, continued on Sunday.
The Men's Division fixture was played at the Southern Indoor Sports Arena, Pleasantville, with the students jumping off at a 23-16 first-quarter advantage.
UTT remained in the lead, 39-29, at the half, ahead of a significant turn-around from Jazz.
After Jazz trailed by 15 points, the team surged to outscore UTT 30-14 in the third period and continued to dominate all the way through to the end of the match.
For Jazz, which now lies third on the 13-team table with 16 points, similar to Caledonia Clippers which have played more matches, was led in attack by Pascal, who scored 24 points and Joseph, who contributed with 23.
For UTT which moves to the top of the standing with 17 points having played more matches, Lazaro Campbell led the scorers with 14 points, while Jeffrey Harris and Kerry Celestine netted 13 each.
In the opening match, JCW Quarters United slumped to a second defeat in twice within 48 hours. After losing 103-77 to Valencia Heat on Saturday in Maloney, the Southerners were pipped by Police, 93-92, on Sunday.
For Police, four players reached double figures. Ronel Winter led the way with 17, followed by Phillip Alexander who scored had 16, while Dayne Daniel and Jesse Hamilton added 15 each.
For Quarters United Kirk Wattie led all scorers with 23 points, Luciano Cedeno supported with 20 points, while Keno Fleary chipped in with ten.
On Friday night, Kerry Celestine scored a season-best 30 points which include 12 critical points in the second half which helped the University of T&T to record an exciting 75-72 win over the 2009 champion team Detour Shak Attack at the Maloney Sports Complex.
