Ireland taking part in the Nagico Super50 cricket series continued to struggle last night when the Irish team was shut out for 179 against the Windward Islands in a match of only academic interest at the Queen's Park Oval in Port-of-Spain.The Irish won the toss and decided to take first strike and met a Windwards bowling unit that was on sound yet again. The Windwards going into the match winless came out with great motivation to move off the bottom of Group A and their bowlers were right on spot.
The problem the Irish faced was failure to build meaningful partnerships as Windwards skipper Liam Sebastien used his bowlers wisely. The best of the batsmen was Niall O'Brien who cracked 44 off 63 balls with two fours and six. Also among the runs was Stuart Thompson who made 32 off 42 balls with a six and two fours. The pick of the bowlers were Delorn Johnson 3/25 and Sebastien 2/36.At press time the Windwards were replying.
