With their all important Nagico Regional Super50 semi-final clash against Barbados set for 2 pm today at the Queen's Park Oval in Port-of-Spain, the Guyana management will be hoping that seven of their players recover in time from the flu.
Among the seven players down with the flu are star batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who did not even practice yesterday and main strike bowler Ronsford Beaton. The Guyanese still practiced at the Oval, while the T&T versus Jamaica semifinal was going on.
Meanwhile coach of the Barbadian team Hendy Springer is confident that his team can reach the finals to play against T&T on Saturday. He said that his team has set markers throughout the tournament and have been able to hit them and they are confident going into the match.
"We are set markers during this tournament and have been hitting them. One of it was a batsman getting a hundred, we did that another was getting a five wicket haul we did that and now it is just a matter of putting everything together going into the semis.
"The pitch is expected to play a key role because as the tournament progressed they got slower and lower because of the use and limited time in between to prepare. The Guyanese are accustomed to these type of pitches so we need to bowl tight and field tight. I don't think we can expect big scores because the par score have gone down during the tournament, so we need to be good in the field."
