Bethel, Spurs clash in fight against Super League relegation

Published:
Saturday, February 15, 2014

Tobago’s Bethel United, a team stuck in the relegation zone for the better part of the season, will host Siparia Spurs in a virtual six-pointer when the lone blink/bmobile National Super League fixture kicks off at Montgomery Recreation Ground, from 4 pm. Siparia, despite sitting sixth out of 13 teams is not safe from the drop. Only four points separate the club and both FC Santa Rosa and Bethel United, the top two teams in the three-team relegation zone.

Spurs has also played 22 matches, one more than Santa Rosa and Bethel. Defence Force currently occupies the bottom spot, and no confirmation has been made on whether the team will replay its outstanding fixtures or suffer default losses. Following this weekend’s matches, only one round (rescheduled Match Day 21 fixtures) will be played, next weekend, which will determine the champion and the relegated teams. Following the final match-day, a committee will decide Defence Force’s fate in this season’s competition.

Defence Force was scheduled to meet Club Sando, tomorrow, but the fixture has once again been postponed. Therefore, runner-up Guaya will have the opportunity to re-take the lead and go level with Club Sando on matches played, when the 2012/2013 Eastern Counties champion takes the trip to Arouca, to face a revitalised FC Santa Rosa.
