I wasn’t good enough admits Wells

LONDON—Bermudian striker Nahki Wells admits he was not good enough in Huddersfield’s 2-0 home defeat against Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend but hopes to repay manager Mark Robins’ faith in him by scoring against lowly Barnsley, another Yorkshire side, in the English Championship on Saturday. Robins said following the weekend defeat that 23-year-old Wells was “lacking a little confidence at the moment” after he failed to score for the sixth game in a row. The defeat saw Huddersfield slip to 14th in the table, 10 points off the play-offs.

Record signing Wells, who joined Huddersfield after a £1.3 million ($2.1 million) transfer last month from League One side Bradford City, scored in his first two appearances for his new club.
The brace took Wells’ tally for the season to 17, having netted 15 times for Bradford this term before his move, but he has drawn a blank since. Said Wells yesterday: “The manager has shown faith in me and it’s up to me to repay him.”

Wells, who was substituted after 71 minutes against Sheffield Wednesday, added: “I’m very critical of my recent performances. “I wasn’t good enough on Saturday and I can probably say the same about the last few matches. “The chances haven’t fallen for me as fluently as I’d like. That’s where as a striker you need to be creative and I don’t think I’ve done that. “But I’m not going to let it knock me back. I’m going to keep going and hopefully once I’ve got a goal more will follow.”
