Wicketkeeper/batsman Stephen Katwaroo stroked a fine 73 to lead all batsmen, as Team A finished on 287 for nine on the opening day of the three-day trial against Team B at the National Cricket Centre (NCC) in Couva, yesterday.Yannic Ottley's men batted all day with Katwaroo and Daron Cruickshank getting half centuries.After the early loss of Evin Lewis, Marlon Barclay, Ottley and Imran Khan, Guyanese born Rangana Lachana and Kevon Cooper staged a recovery.
Lachana, making a bid to play for T&T, fell for 43 off 112 balls with seven fours and he was followed by Cooper who lashed a typically aggressive 41 off 39 balls with four fours and two sixes.
When they left, the right handed Katwaroo and Cruickshank took over and controlled the bowling. Katwaroo looked set for three figures but fell for 73 after batting for 163 minutes. He faced 132 balls and struck seven fours and two sixes.
Cruickshank, the Queen's Park all rounder lost his wicket for 55 in two hours batting.
