Naparima College continued to improve yesterday, as Kazeem Mohammed's all-round effort guided the school to a comfortable seven-wicket win over Fatima in round seven of the PowerGen Secondary Schools 50-over cricket league. After earning a winning draw last week against El Dorado East, Naparima was looking for an outright win yesterday at the Wilson Road Recreation Ground in Penal. The spin-bowling duo of Mohammed (3/22) and Jovan Ali (3/10) both took three wickets to limit Fatima to 127/9 in this 45-over contest because of rain. Jonathan Hirst was the best batsman for Fatima, scoring 30.
In reply, Mohammed was a one man show, slamming an unbeaten 79 to take Naps to the target with more than ten overs to spare. Clevon Kallawan pitched in with an unbeaten 19, while Anand Lochan grabbed 2/20. With the win, Naparima is now off the bottom of the standings. At Honeymoon Park, El Dorado, national youth player Jeron Maniram had an excellent day to lead Barrackpore West Secondary to an easy eight-wicket win over El Dorado East.
Maniram grabbed 3/15, then later in the day struck an unbeaten 41 to see Barrackpore home. Bowling first, Maniram's spell, along with 3/32 from Dillon Mohammed reduced El Dorado East to 95/9 in a reduced 25-over contest, because of rain. Nathaniel McDavid top scored with 20 for El Dorado. In reply, Barrackpore got off to a poor start, as it was quickly reduced to 10/2. However, Maniram and Keron Kanhai then steadied the innings, as the pair took Barrackpore to the target in 15 overs without any further loss.
