Former national footballer Nevick Denoon wants to see more opportunities being offered in the area of sport for the youth of Morvant/Laventille and environs.
The coach of Morvant Elements was speaking at the T&T Football Assocaition (TTFA)/Chevrolet Youth football community clinic at the Morvant Recreation Ground on Saturday at which some 110 youngsters took part in the clinic overseen by TTFA technical director Anton Corneal and a group of local coaches.
"We need more education in this area. We have a peaceful environment and that is a perfect way to get development. We have been advocating for the grassroots course to reach in an area like this," Denoon said.
"We will appreciate whatever the TTFA can do to bring a higher level of education and coaching here as well as better infrastructure."
He commended the TTFA for staging the clinic in Morvant and said he hoped the programme was continued in the area, something which TTFA president Raymond Tim Kee stated that he will make efforts to see this happen.
"For me this clinic is the 'Mountain coming to Muhammad' right now. We are really glad for this. Sometimes we feel ignored... we feel treated like a bastard child... this is Morvant, them fellas don't want anything. We have produced and we continue to produce without much. We have the desire and passion but we don't have the expertise. We need education and training in order to be more successful and hopefully this is a start of an ongoing process," Denoon said.
The TTFA youth clinic campaign will continue in La Brea on March 8.

Molino stands out indraw with Toronto
National midfielder Kevin Molino produced a solid performance for Orlando City in their 1-1 draw with American MLS side Toronto FC at the Walt Disney Pro Soccer Classic encounter played ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida on Saturday.
Molino, now on a four-year contract with Orlando ahead of their inaugural appearance in the MLS next year, came in for praise from club head coach Adrian Heath.
"I thought (Kevin) Molino and (Darwin) Ceren were the best two players on the field for both teams tonight (Saturday), so that bodes well for the future," said Heath.
According to reports, "After a slow start, Molino would also become increasingly active in the final third, leading to a few more quality opportunities from Orlando. In an effort to get more involved, the Trinidadian began drifting inside and coordinated two powerful efforts that kept Toronto Goalkeeper Joe Bendik on his toes.
"Molino's presence in the center of the park would also lead to chances for his fellow attackers as the Midfielder gifted newly added player Corey Hertzog with a golden opportunity in the 31st minute that saw the forward strike it over the bar."
Aubrey off to Finland for trial
?
National defender Aubrey David left for Jakobstad, Finland yesterday for a trial with Finnish Premier League club FF Jaro.
David, a former national Under-17 and U-20 defender, has been one of the consistent players coming out of the T&T youth system and has been a regular in the pool of T&T senior players for the past year or more.
"It's a two-week trial but I'm going there with the intention to give it my best shot and hopefully stay one time with the club," David said.
"It's going to be down to hard work and God will take care of the rest. I've looked forward to an opportunity like this for some time now and hopefully all will go well. I'm really excited about the opportunity. I think I've grown as a player in recent times because of the exposure with the national team I intend to keep on advancing my game," David said.
The 23-year-old David has made 16 appearances for the T&T team and is currently attached to Caledonia AIA. David will hope to become the second T&T player to join Jaro after local striker Shahdon Winchester had a stint with the club last season while on loan from W Connection.
