Holy Name Convent inched closer to the title in the Secondary Schools Girls Hockey League, as two goals apiece from Brianna Govia and Kaitlyn Olton on Monday led the team to a crushing 5-0 win over Woodbrook Secondary at the St James Barracks.
Holy Name is unbeaten this season, winning its first two matches. Holy Name leads the standings with six points, with two matches left. Victory in one of its remaining matches will seal the title, as St Joseph Convent and Providence, which are both on four points, only have one match remaining.
Kristin Abreu opened the scoring for Holy Name in the 9th minute, before Govia (16th) scored her first item to make it a comfortable 2-0 lead. Olton then took over, scoring two goals (28th, 36th) to give Holy Name a handsome 4-0 advantage. To add insult to injury, Govia finished off the scoring in the 40th minute.
On Sunday, Ackeem Benjamin scored the lone goal to give Debe a 1-0 win over Woodbrook Secondary in the last boys league match of the season. Queen's Royal College (QRC) clinched the boys title on Friday with a 3-0 whipping of Debe. QRC ended the season with a perfect record, winning all five of its matches and not conceding a single goal.
