Defending national two-day champion Powergen will aim for its second win in as many matches today and tomorrow against Esmeralda, a team also coming off an opening round win in the T&T Cricket Board National League two-day competition.In the first round, Nicholas Sookdeosingh and Ancil Bhagan starred for the defending champions, leading the team to a comfortable five-wicket win over Clarke Road at the Wilson Road Recreation Ground. Sookdeosingh slammed 150 in the first innings, while spin bowler Bhagan snatched 8/36 for Powergen in Clarke Road's second innings. Powergen will be without the services of Kavesh Kantasingh this weekend, as the left-arm spinner has been included in the national squad for the four-day regional tournament. Kantasingh also had a good showing against Clarke Road, taking 6/62 in the first innings.
Esmeralda defeated Caldrac by 164 runs at Gilbert Park in round one. Esmeralda's bowlers did some damage, as Ahkeel Mollon grabbed 6/49 in the first innings. Anthony D'andrade showed some form with the bat for Esmeralda, scoring 55 in the second innings. Esmeralda is hoping to have more success in the two-day competition after crashing out of the National Sunday League competition. Esmeralda failed to advance past the group stage of the Sunday league, losing all five of its matches to finish last in group A.Munroe Road and Alescon Comets will also look to remain unbeaten when both teams battle at the Munroe Road Recreation Ground. Munroe got past Preysal by 63 runs, while Comets defeated Bamboo by 47 runs in round one.
