Stiff competition is expected today from 8 am at the fifth and final T&T Cycling Federation road league event, as national spots are up for grabs.Today's races will be the second qualifier for the men's national Southern Games (April 5-6) road race team. At road race four on February 23, also held on the Diego Martin Highway, Barbadian rider Jamol Eastmond (Heatwave) won the main event.
Finishing behind Eastmond was T&T cyclist Joshua Alexander (Team DPS) and Bajan Phillip Clarke (Heatwave). Road race four was used as the first qualifier for the Southern Games.
Local cycling club Rigtech Sonics, will be aiming to regain the form it showed at the beginning of the year to claim national selections.
Rigtech's T&T riders Barry Luces and Keron Bramble won the first two road races of the year on January 12 and 26 respectively.Today's feature event will see Elite one, two, three and Invitational cyclists pedal for 55 minutes, then complete two laps of the 2.4 km course. Elite four, youth development, juniors, masters, senior ladies and juveniles will also compete. Youth development riders can participate free of charge, while other cyclists must pay a registration fee of $20.
