UTT, TSTT to meet in Alternative KO final

The University of T&T (UTT) and TSTT, the top two teams in the Alternative Division of the Courts All Sectors Netball League will face off in a highly anticipated divisional knockout at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Tacarigua, on Monday from 6.45 pm.


This after both teams, which finished one-two in the league with UTT claiming the crown only on goal-difference, stormed past their quarterfinal and semifinal opponents on Tuesday night.


In the quarterfinals, UTT inspired by Shaquanda Green’s 17 goals from 32 attempts and Shurice Gordon’s seven from 13 thumped Prisons 24–11 to avenge their 16–18 loss in the Fast Five final on Saturday.


For Prisons, which trailed 6–13 at the half, La Vaughn O’Neal scored ten from 20 and Aylene Tinto got one from nine in the 13-goal loss.


In the other quarterfinal, Kanika Paul-Payne scored nine goals from ten attempts and Sophia Harper added five from ten to lead TSTT past the University of Southern Caribbean (USC) 17–11.


Afiya Alexis led USC with eight goals from 17 attempts and Carla Victor got three from four in the loss for, after they trailed 5–10 at the half.


The semifinals saw more convincing performances from UTT and TSTT as they dispatched Police and Central Bank to book their place in the tournament decider.


Once again, Green was the main contributor for UTT as she converted 13 of 21 attempts and Gordon, seven from 11 in their 20–11 defeat of Police which got six and five points from Cheryse Aguilleria and Merlina Thomas, respectively.


TSTT changed up its attack for the semifinal meeting with Central Bank, but the outcome was the same as Chantael Perry netted 16 of 23 attempts and Harper got five of 19 in the 21–20 victory.


Sharlane Lewis got nine goals from 17 attempts and Camille Williams, one from three for Central Bank.

TSTT 21 (Chantael Perry 16/23, Sophia Harper 5/19) vs Central Bank 10 (Sharlane Lewis 9/17, Camille Williams 1/3). Half-time score: 7–5 TSTT
UTT 20 (Shaquanda Green 13/21, Shurice Gordon 7/11) vs Police 11 (Cheryse Aquilleria 6/10, Merlina Thomas 5/9). Half-time score: 12–5 UTT
