A 12-member T&T Under-16 netball team will leave Piarco International Airport for St John's Antigua via LIAT flight LI 308 from 5.45am today where they will compete in the Caribbean Netball Association Jean Pierre Youth (Under-16) Netball Championships from Friday until Sunday April 3-13.In Antigua, the host for the third time and first since 2008, T&T will play matches against St Lucia (April 7) and Jamaica (April 8) followed by two matches on April 10 versus St Vincent and The Grenadines, and St Kitts followed by Barbados (April 11) and Dominica (April 12) in the seven-team round-robin series.
The four-other teams in the tournament, host Antigua & Barbuda, Grenada, Nevis and St Maarten will compete in their own Developmental series.Jamaica has won the tournament a record ten-times including on the two previous times it was held in St John's, where T&T was runner-up twice as well.The youth championship (named after the renowned international netballers, the late Jean Pierre of T&T), has been staged annually since 1998.
