Anton Corneal has quit his position as technical director of the T&T Football Association (TTFA) citing the failure of both the Association and the Ministry to pay his salary.
The 50-year-old Corneal issued his letter of resignation to the T&TFA on Tuesday.
Corneal, a former national midfielder led the T&TFA's coach education programme which saw more than 300 coaches throughout the country graduate from the TTFA/Dutch C "License" Course.
Also a FIFA grassroots instructor, Corneal was also involved in the T&TFA Youth Community football clinics and was part of team preparations for the national men youth teams as well as the women Under 20 and senior teams.
He also served as assistant coach to Leon Beenhakker at the 2006 FIFA Germany World Cup as well as assistant to Zoran Vranes at the 2009 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Egypt while he qualified the Under-17 team to the 2007 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in South Korea as coach. On January 14, 2012, Corneal, signed a four-year contract with the T&TFA after the axing of Germany's Otto Pfister but after two years and four months, he has walked off the job.
Yesterday, Corneal made it clear that his decision was not done in malice.
"I have been involved with the national set-up for the past ten years and five months, and my last contract stated that half of my salary would be paid by the federation and the other half by Government via the Sport Company of T&T (Sportt). However, over the past 26 months I have only been paid by Sportt the half of my monthly salary on eight occasions while the T&TFA has not contributed a dollar."
Corneal said he is willing to work for the improvement of T&T football, providing the financial situation of the federation improves.
In a release, the T&TFA said it was grateful to Corneal for his services and wished him well in his future endeavors.
"Enough words cannot express our gratitude to Anton Corneal for his endless hours of dedication and service to the Association in his capacity as technical director. It is in fact with regret that we have to see his tenure as technical director come to an end.
"His knowledge of the game is unquestionable and his passion for country is indeed admirable. We do wish him the very best in his future endeavors," TTFA president Raymond Tim Kee stated.
