For the second straight year, national player Nabeel Mohammed captured a boys' triple crown at the Catch National Junior Championships, dominating the singles and doubles events, along with his girls' counterpart Emma-Rose Trestrail, who proved a notch above the rest on the closing day, yesterday.
The event concluded after six days of action at the Eddie Taylor Public Courts, King George V Park, St Clair, with Mohammed storming his way to titles virtually untroubled against his opponents. He won the singles segments of the Under-16 and Under-18 divisions, as well as the doubles in the latter, in which he paired up with Aaron Soo Ping Chow, stamping his name as the top youth player in the country. Unfortunately, Nkrumah Patrick was on the losing end of both Under-18 singles and doubles finals.
Meanwhile, Trestrail, who opened her title haul with the Under-18 singles triumph a day prior, eased past friendly rival Emma Davis for the Under-16 singles title before the duo paired up to whip def Juliet Campbell and Carissa Roldulfo, 6-1, 6-3.
Among the younger players, Scott Hackshaw made up for his runner-up finish in the Boys Under-16 singles event, with a comfortable 6-4, 6-0 win over Adam Escalante in the Under-14 singles final.
