Two-time winners, DirecTV W Connection and Central FC will square off in a highly anticipated Lucozade Sport Goal Shield final on Friday April 25 at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva after impressive semifinal wins against North East Stars and Pt Fortin Civic at the same venue on Friday night.W Connection, previous winners in 2009 and 2013 edged tournament debutants Point Fortin Civic 1-0 in the first semifinal to keep it hopes alive of five titles this season while Central booked its spot with a comfortable 2-0 win over 2010 champions North East Stars.In a closely fought first semifinal, Pt Fortin had the first real chance on goal in the 16th minute when Sylvester Teesdale's left-footed hook shaved the side netting while five minutes later, W Connection's Kurt Frederick was by goalkeeper Marvin Phillip and five minutes into the second half, the Pt Fortin custodian.
Eight minutes into the second-half, W Connection got the decisive goal when forward Hashim Arcia netted off Kurt Frederick's corner which took a deflection off the head of Leslie Joel Russell. With the seconds ticking away, Suriname's 19-year-old forward Dimitrie Apai came close to a second for W Connection, but he was denied by the crossbar after taking on and beating four Pt Fortin players with his pace.W Connection will now seek to add to its trophies won already this season inclusive of the Digicel Charity Shield, Toyota Classic and T&T Football Association FA Trophy while they are also top of the Digicel Pro League table with three matches left to play.However, standing in their way is Central which is also in the hunt for the Pro League $1 million prize and has won the First Citizens Cup so far this campaign.
