National centre Wilt Vincent scored 13 points and forward Kerry McMillan netted 12 as Caledonia Clippers put an end to Petro Jazz 11-game winning streak in the final preliminary round game of the Mackeson Super 10 basketball League season.Caledonia Clippers defeated Petro Jazz 77-65 in the Men's Division at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex on Sunday night. Caledonia needed the win to secure its place in the Big-Four finals which comprise League winners Jazz, followed by Defence Force, Valencia Heat and Caledonia in that order.
With the exception of the second quarter in which it was outscored 13-28, Caledonia Clippers led 23-11 after the first session of play. At half-time the host was 34-41 adrift. However, it was the team's second half performance that secured their win after leading 17-10 in the third, the teams were evenly matched 51-51 before the visitors fell after and Caledonia's 24-15 run in the fourth and final session of play.For the Jazz, point-guard Adrain Joseph led all scorers with 21 points, while forward Ako Pascal found scoring tough against Caledonia's defence as he finished with just 11 points, his lowest points production in the 12 matches he contested.There were wins for Police over Defence Force in the Women's Division and Laventille defeated Caledonia Clippers in the Boys Under-15 Division 62-55.
Courts Horizon endLeague victorious
Former national players point-guard Annola Charles and centre Rachael King combined for 55 points which guided Courts Horizon to a 76�60 win over Defence Force in the Women's Division during the team's match-up on Saturday night in Maloney.Horizon which went winless in four previous matches, led 15-10 after the first quarter and 21-13 in the second for a 36-23 halftime lead. However, Defence force outscored their arch rivals 17-10 in the third session but Horizon bounced back with a huge 30-20 advantage in the fourth quarter to register a comfortable victory.
Charles finished with 33 points, a league best by any individual best, while King's 22 points was also her best performance of the season. For Defence Force centre Chrisan Petrovanie netted 22 points and Ayana Mack 12.
