National Under-15 players Crystian Thurton and Kirstan Kallicharan showed their prowess yesterday on the opening day of the BG T&T U-15 two-day Interzone cricket competition, hitting centuries to put their teams in commanding positions.
At the Rousillac Recreation Ground, right-handed Thurton struck an unbeaten 181 to push the Central zone to a mammoth 310/4. Brandon Ali also showed form, scoring 73. Earlier, South-West was dismissed for 69 in its first innings, giving Central the huge lead. Amit Gopaul top scored with 18, while Rupdeen Sookdeo took 5/11 and Thurton grabbed two wickets for one run. South-West closed the day on 79/2 in the second innings.
Over at the Aranguez Recreation Ground, national U-15 captain Kirstan Kallicharan slammed 124 to leave the East zone in control against North-East. Kallicharan made 124 to lead East to 220/2 in its alotted 30 overs. The national U-15 skipper was supported with 58 from Nathaniel McDavid, another national player. In reply, North-East could only muster 80/7 in its 30 overs as Kallicharan and K. John snatched three wickets each. East closed the day on 125/4 in the second innings, an overall lead of 265 runs.
