Fast bowler Anderson Phillip produced an incredible spell on Wednesday night at the Munroe Road Recreation Ground to lead Carapichaima East into the final of the Powergen Secondary Schools Intercol T20 knockout tournament.
Chasing 108 for victory, Vishnu Boys would have fancied its chances.
However, Phillip grabbed 5/16 in four overs to dismiss Vishnu for 85 in 16 overs, handing Carapichaima the 22-run win. Christopher Vincent also caused problems for Vishnu, taking 2/18.
The Kallicharan brothers Kirstan and Hance, tried to rescue their team, scoring 29 and 13 respectively, but it was not enough.
Earlier, Carapichaima posted a modest 107/9. Akeel Antoine struck an unbeaten 26 at the end of innings to propel the total past 100. National youth players Justin Joseph (24) and Dejourn Charles (18) also contributed to the total.
Brandon Boodram and Yoan Sirjoo contained the Carapichaima batsmen, grabbing 3/20 and 3/24 respectively.
With the loss, Vishnu's chance of a second trophy this season ended. Vishnu won the 50-over league title in March.
Carapichaima will face the winner of the Barrackpore West, Naparima match in the final on May 9 at Guaracara Park.
Up to press time last night, the match between Barrackpore and Naparima was being played at Syne Village, Penal.
