Varun Maharajh, Keiana Lester, Kollyn St George, Quincy Alexander and Christian Farah all broke records on day four of the National Cycling Track Championships at the Arima Velodrome on Wednesday night.
Rigtech Sonics cyclist Maharajh, who won the elite men's omnium event on Sunday, continued his top form in the elite men's 4km individual pursuit .
In the qualifying round, Maharajh broke a 16-year mark, stopping the clock in 4.57.528. Sheldon Serrao previously held the record of 4.58. Maharajh went on to win gold in 4:59.094, ahead of Team Drive Phase Sport rider Jovian Gomez (5:03.387).
In the 500m junior women's time trial, the young ladies paid no respect to the previous record. Slipstream rider St George smashed the record in 39.259 seconds, breaking the previous mark of 39.528 seconds. Amazingly, five minutes later Lester (Bike Smith) bettered the mark in 39.076 seconds to grab gold, forcing St George to settle for second place.
Also breaking records on the night were Alexander (elite men 1km time trial) and Farah (elite women's 3km individual pursuit). Action continues this evening at the Arima Velodrome from 7 pm with the sprint events in the elite and junior categories.
