Fifa development officer Howard McIntosh is back in Trinidad this week for yet another visit during which he will hold meetings with the T&T Football Association (TTFA) on the development of the local game.McIntosh revealed that plans were underway for T&T to receive Goal Project assistance for the establishment of a National Technical Centre for local football. He said, "Very soon we expect that with the support and co-operation of the Government that we will have the Goal Programme and specifically a technical centre established for T&T national teams and the association and then move the programme in a particular way."McIntosh, who is in charge of development for the south-eastern Caribbean also spoke positively about the T&T Government's support for local football and the positive impact that co-operation with Sport Minister Anil Roberts and his ministry and the Ministry of Tourism can have on the game in this country.
"I operate within Concacaf and I have a fairly good understanding of partnerships and alliances that exist in the region and without fear of contradiction, I am comfortable saying that the tremendous support provided by the Government of T&T is exceptional and is by far one of the best levels of support that is given to national associations. "Our hope is that the support continues, as we are very much comforted and encouraged by the members of the Government that we met with. We are happy to see that in T&T that that level of support exists. Now we look forward to seeing that the stakeholders and other partners and everyone in the football family coming together for football in T&T to rise to the top again," McIntosh said."All of this is being done because of the strategic plan and the goals and objectives that have been outlined by president Tim Kee and how we are going to make it work."
Inverness winger hails Latapy impact
Inverness Caledonian Thistle winger Marley Watkins has credited the role Russell Latapy has played in his improvement as a player in the Scottish Premier League this season.Latapy is now the assistant coach at Inverness and Watkins believes his football philosophy can only benefit him and his Caley teammates."You can tell in training that Russell was a player with a bit of skill. He's nutmegged a few of the boys, but not me yet!" Watkins said."He's good and he likes to play football the right way–on the deck. He also likes to take you to one side and will tell you a few things to help your game, which is good."Both myself and Aaron (Doran), with our ability, just need to show that end product whether it's a cross or a shot."He said the former Porto man tries to instill his style of football in the Inverness team but allows players to do their own thing."Russell wants us to be creative, but to keep it simple in our half of the pitch. Then, when you're in the final third, just play with freedom, express yourself and make stuff happen."
