Merry Boys, leaders of the Shanghai Construction Group National League, will get its toughest test of the season today and tomorrow against third placed Powergen in round nine action at Syne Village, Penal.Merry Boys are on top with 194 points, but will face formidable opponents in the remaining three rounds of the season. After playing Powergen this weekend, Merry Boys will tackle second placed Queen's Park (162 points) in round 10 and then fourth placed Clarke Road (123 points) to close the season.
Merry Boys piled on the runs in the last round on its way to a crushing victory over Clico Preysal. Behind half-centuries from Mario Belcon (68), Aneil Kanhai (65), Aaron Alfred (54) and Amir Jangoo (51), Merry Boys posted 353/7 declared batting first.Preysal was skittled out for 121 in the first innings and 124 in the second to hand Merry Boys the win by an innings and 108 runs.
Powergen will also look to continue its momentum, after easing past Bamboo by 117 runs in the last round. In another key contest, Queen's Park will play fifth placed Caldrac at the latter's home ground.Action bowls off at 10 am today and tomorrow from 9.30 am.
