Point-guard Canaan Donawa scored 14 points as Valencia Heat defeated Maloney Pacers 59-50 to stay unbeaten after six matches in the Powerade/Toyota Boys Under-21 Big-Four semi-finals of the Super 10 Basketball League, at Maloney Indoor Sports Complex on Saturday night.
The win means that Valencia Heat, the reigning youth champions of the SBL will defend their title against New Age Ballerz which won against Off Limits 82-60 in the middle game of a triple-header at the same venue.
Valencia Heat trailed the first quarter 12-10, but raised their game in the second quarter to lead 30-28. At half-time they were up 47-42. Donawa got good support from team-mates Christian Arthur (11), Jahmaul Graham (10) and Ivan Williams, who scored nine points.
For Pacers, who played an organised and tactical game, Shaquille Sylvester had 14 points, Joel Theodore also netted 14 and Shaquille Neptune, 12.
Pacers and Off Limits will face each other in the third place play-off.
In the first semi-finals, Ballerz also dominated with scores of 18-7; 31-26 at half-time and 55-41) through the first three quarters. Forward Matthew Sheppard led his a team with 26 points and Shaquille Peters scored 18 before he was fouled out. For Off Limits, Kushaiah King was the best scorer with 29 points and Shakeel Dyte supported with 12.
