Jinan Al Rawi and Alexandria Yearwood won the girls Under-13 and girls Under-15 titles respectively, after shocking the top seeds yesterday at the T&T Squash Association National Junior Squash Championships at Cascadia Courts, St Ann's.
Al Rawi, ranked second in the girls U-13 draw, eased past the top-ranked Aimee De Verteuil 11-7, 11-7, 11-9 to win the title. In the girls U-15 final, second-seeded Yearwood outlasted top-ranked Marie Claire Barcant in a five-set thriller. Trailing two sets to one, Yearwood did not give up, fighting back to win the last two sets 11-6, 11-2 to claim the crown.
Among the boys, all the top seeds won their respective age groups, including Christopher Anthony (boys U-13), Nicholas Caddle (boys U-15), Chad Salandy (boys U-17) and Nku Patrick (boys U-19). Caddle was hoping to win two titles in the tournament, but lost to Salandy in the boys U-17 final.
