The semifinals of the BG T&T Under-15 two-day Interzone tournament will bowl off today with South-East playing North and East facing Central in a battle for a spot in the final on June 3 and 4 at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva.
At the Bamboo Recreational Ground, Central's success may depend on how much it contains East star player Kirstan Kallicharan . Right-handed Kallicharan, the national U-15 captain, has piled on the runs this season. His scores include an unbeaten 124, 102, 99 and 59. He is also a useful leg-spin bowler, grabbing five wickets for six runs in round three, the same match he struck 102.
National youth player Nathaniel McDavid has also been among the runs this season for East. Central will look towards the likes of Crystian Thurton, Rupdeen Sookdeo, Kyle Madoo and Fiaz John, who have all performed at a high level. Thurton, Kallicharan's national U-15 teammate last year, hit an unbeaten 181 in round one which is the highest score of the tournament.
In the second semifinal at the Sancho Recreation Ground, Princes Town, North will play South-East. North bowler Adrian Ramlagan has been destroying the opposing batsman. In round three, Ramlagan took 4/28 in the first innings and 5/39 in the second against North-East. Ramlagan will have to be at his best to stop South-East pair Cephas Cooper and Brandon Singh. Cooper's scores include 107 not out, 70 not out and 57, while Singh scored 75 in round one and 102 in round three.
Both matches bowl off at 10 am today and continue tomorrow at the same time.
