Funeral arrangements for former national cyclist and road champion Roger Smart will now take place at 1 pm today at St Patrick's Church on Maraval Road in Newtown, Port-of-Spain.
Originally, the service was scheduled to begin at 9.30 am, but a subsequent release from the T&T Cycling Federation indicated that it would take place three-and-a-half hours later.
Smart who was attached to Madonna Wheelers Cycling Club reportedly succumbed to injuries he sustained in a vehicular accident last Friday on Ariapita Avenue, in Woodbrook in the vicinity of Petra Street.
During his career, the top athlete was known as being a staunch advocate for youth development in the sport. Before his death Smart pedalled to victory at the National Track Championships held earlier this year, staged by the T&T Cycling Federation and emerged the victor in the Masters 45-49 category.
At the end of the tournament Smart took home three medals.
