Clico Preysal began its quest for survival yesterday positively, as school boy Kamil Pooran struck 76 to give his team the advantage over Esmeralda in the final round of the Shanghai Construction Group National League.The bottom three clubs at the end of today's play will be demoted to the championship division next season. Before the last round began Preysal was in tenth place, four points behind ninth placed Munroe Road. Bowling first, Preysal restricted Esmeralda for 149 all out with Uthman Mohammed taking 4/47 and Eugene La Fleur snatching 2/21. Keon Issac top scored for Esmeralda with 23.
In reply, Pooran, a Presentation College, Chaguanas student, slammed 76 to guide Preysal to 230 all out, a lead of 81 runs on first innings. La Fleur also contributed with the bat, scoring 44, while Kerwin Sirju was the pick of the bowlers with 5/80. At the close Esmeralda was 6/0 in its second innings.At the Munroe Road Recreation Ground, Powergen took a 84-run first innings lead against Munroe. At stumps, Munroe was struggling on 31/3 in the second innings.All matches continue today from 9.30 am, except for the Queen's Park, Bamboo match. Queen's Park breezed past Bamboo by an innings and 17 runs yesterday.
