Minister of Sport Anil Roberts yesterday congratulated spinner Sunil Narine and his IPL franchise team the Kolkata Knight Riders on their victory in the IPL Championship final.
"This was indeed a thrilling match, featuring the highest calibre of cricket and it was great to see a son of the soil in action, working with his team to secure a such a prestigious title."
Roberts also congratulated Jamaica's Andre Russell, who is also a member of the winning KKR team as well as to the tournament MVP Dwayne Smith of Barbados.
"To have two West Indians as integral members of a victorious franchise team certainly augurs well for the development of our players in the region since again, they gain invaluable experience playing alongside and against the best in the world. Further, our West Indian cricketers continue to demonstrate that they are indeed on par with the game's best. Bajan opener Dwayne Smith was consistently brilliant throughout the IPL season and this culminated in his being awarded the MVP honour for his outstanding innings with bat, ball and in the field, during the competition.
"I stand alongside the thousands of West Indies cricket fans across the region who look forward to the best possible team being fielded for the upcoming home series against New Zealand."
