A virtual who’s who of legendary sporting personalities were on hand at the book launching of former national goalkeeper Lincoln “Tiger” Phillips at the Centenary Hall, Queen’s Park Oval, on Thursday evening.

Phillips, arguably the country’s best ever goalkeeper, also played and coached professionally at Washington Darts in America and was coach of the Howard University football team when it won consecutives NCAA titles in 1971-72.

His biography, jointly written by Guardian sports editor Valentino Singh and Robert Clarke is entitled Above and Beyond the bar.

The book traces Phillips sporting career, but provides an incisive story of a man whose ultimate success in life was underlined by a desire to improve in every possible way.
