The City of Port-of-Spain will celebrate it's 100th anniversary with a major Steelband Parade and Jamboree entitled The City of Pan-100 Years Stronger on June 15.
The parade begins at 3 pm and will include 26 top steel orchestras parading from east and west Port-of-Spain. The RBC Redemption Sound Setters Steel Orchestra from Tobago will also be in the parade as well as a heritage contingent.
The East Port-of-Spain segment of the street parade will begin at the Piccadilly Greens and proceed to Park Street, then north on Charlotte street, then west onto Keate Street before turning south down Frederick Street, ending at Woodford Square.
The West Port-of-Spain segment of the street parade will begin at the St James Amphitheatre on the Western Main Road then proceeding east on Tragarete Road, then south onto Richmond Street, then east on Park street before turning south down Frederick street towards Woodford Square. Both segments of the street parade will have 13 steelbands each.
The Jamboree at Woodford Square will begin from 6 pm with showtime at 8 pm featuring reigning National Panorama champion Petrotrin Phase II Pan Groove and Denyse Plummer, Witco Desperadoes and SuperBlue, BP Renegades and Black Stalin, Neal & Massy Trinidad All Stars, and Dane Gulston and Friends with The Original De Fosto Himself.
There will also be a toast to the capital by Port-of-Spain mayor Raymond Tim Kee and members of Council followed by a short fireworks display to end off the evening's proceedings.
The event is free to members of the public, and there will be a well stocked bar, food concessions, and tight security.
There will be No Parking restrictions around the city on that day except for on the official parade route.
