Following his 100m and 400m title wins on Saturday, outstanding Point Fortin New Jets athlete, Timothy Frederick, bagged another pair of gold medals when the two-day NGC/NAAA National Juvenile Track and Field Championships, concluded at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, yesterday.
Not only did Frederick win four Under-14 titles, he did so comfortably, particularly in the 400m dash on Friday where he finished in 56.18 seconds, well ahead of another highly rated youngster, Ethan Forde of Cougars, who clocked 24.23.
Yesterday, Frederick went on to take the 200m title with a 23.89 finish, yet again beating Forde, who trailed for second in 24.23.
Frederick's fourth title came when he, along with his team-mates, Stephon Caesar, Kyle Bridgewater and Malachi Lam, combined to win the Boys' U-14 800m sprint medley. Point Fortin finished in 1:44.27, just ahead of Forde and Cougars, which clocked 1:44.36 for silver. Lam, one of several versatile athletes in attendance, took on the long jump and won with a leap of 4.41m (wind 1.3), well ahead of Kegel Chance and Kyle Bridgewater, who leapt 4.07m and 4.05m, respectively.
Among the top girls were Patrice Richards of Neon Trackers and Aaliyah Mitchell of Abilene Wildcats. Richards won the 60m dash in 10.42 seconds before taking on the more gruelling 400m event and winning gold in 58.32 seconds.
Meanwhile, Mitchell was outstanding in the longer races. She finished over 12 seconds ahead of runner-up Caliyah Wallace in the 800m dash, before taking the 1000m dash in 3:09.44, over 20 seconds quicker tham Camille Lewis.
Last weekend's events will be followed by the President's Classic, which is scheduled for Saturday. The National Open Championships will follow from June 20-22, before the Combined Events, which takes place on June 28. All are carded to take place at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
