Dominican Republic's Elvis Contreras was voted as the Most Valuable Player after he led pre-tournament favourites Technocrats to a successful defence of its Men's Division title in Third Caribbean Volleyball League (CVL) hosted by the T&T Volleyball Federation in collaboration with NORCECA at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo, on Sunday.
In the final, Technocrats also featuring Contreras' countryman, Jose Caceras, Jamaica Ricardo Chong and Barbadian Dale Addison along with T&T's Sean Morrison and Kevin Nimrod overwhelmed surprise finalist Zenith boosted by the inclusion of Brazilians, Vinicius Baigan and Matheus Roham, Americans Matthew Talamantes and Aaron Almario, along with Latvian Valters Ramma 25-20, 25-17, 25-19.
In the third place playoff, SEPoS which featured national captain Nolan Tash and fellow internationals Akim Bushe, Jessel Davis, Brandon Legall, Darnell David as well as guest player Joshua Mohammed and Barbadian Alain London got the better of Defence Force with national setter Saleem Ali, France-based Ryan Stewart and Germany's Markus Schulze in its line-up 27-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-23.
On Saturday in the semifinals, Zenith battled past SEPoS 23-25, 25-18, 26-28, 25-17, 15-9 while Technocrats overcame Defence Force 25-23, 25-21, 25-17 in their semifinal.
Last year when the tournament was held at the University of the West Indies Sports and Physical Educational Centre, St Augustine, Technocrats defeated Toco Youth Volleyball Academy in a very tense final while SEPoS took third, over 2012 winner Glamorgan, which opted out of this year's event.
